Review/Comments
Revenge was an opportunity to let out my creative ability onto paper. We also learned how to develop characters and a strong story line in this project. The book jacket above was made to advertise my amazing story. I used red to show hate and passion, also if you look close enough you can see numbers counting down which is a reference to the killer's notes to Victor Summers.

CHAPTER ONE : JEN
The glowing numbers on my night stand were stinging my eyes, but I could't help but stair, they were the only things I could see in my pitch black room. It had been 13 mins. since I had opened my eyes and settled them on that red 4:56 AM. In this whole 13 mins all I could manage to do was stare, stare, and think. My body wanted to get up and walk around but my mind convinced it was opposite saying "It will be cold" "no one is even up" "it's too dark". Boy could my mind control me. I couldn't really blame it though, something about the darkness out side my window and the erie glow emanating from my alarm made the day feel unsafe. God I sound completely insane! It's just another friday. Normal. Boring. Maybe I was just not used to getting up so early… yes. Yes, that must be it. I usually wake up when the sun is streaming through my window not hiding away under the mountains. Lifting my torso and propping it up with my arms made my head feel woozy. Slowly I pulled myself up and stumbled my way out my door, through the hallway, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. Not to my surprise Emily, my sister, was sitting on the counter looking out the window eating cereal. "Well, well funny to run into you here" I gestured to the kitchen," Didn't think you'd even be at the house so late in the day"
"I expected more from you really I did." said Emily in a mocking tone.
"If I think of anything better later, when I am actually awake, I'll call you. Pass the cereal." Emily was about to toss the box over when my mother burst through the door. See I am the only one in my family that isn't a "morning person".
"Well, good morning girls I hadn't expected you up Jen, did you have trouble sleeping?"
"No my car broke down yesterday I was hoping to catch a ride with Emily." I said as I poured colored flakes into my bowl.
"Oh, what happened?"mom prodded.
"Nothing serious just a flat and my spare was ironically flat as well." I muttered still angry about the whole incident,"I need to go get ready for school." That was my ticket to leave, so I stood with my cereal and hobbled back into my room.
Emily starts school early that means it will be cold while I'm waiting, and thats for a good 3 hours. I should dress in something warm… but then again it's suppose to be in the 80's later today. I tried to ponder but I couldn't, my brain was fried. So I pulled on my go-to outfit, a pair of jeans, brown sandals, and a ill fitting T. I walked into my bathroom and looked in the mirror. I wasn't the most stunning person but I did have a few things going for me: my eyes are bright green that contrast with my big black ringlet curls, I'm modularity tall but most of its my legs, and my lips are full and naturally red. If I'm careful I can look like a modern snow white but, I'm too lazy. Today wasn't an exception. I ran some gel though my hair and blinked on mascara. Walking back though my room I grabbed my book bag and headed down stairs. Emily was waiting for me in her jeep and as soon as I got in the engine roared to life and we were off.
CHAPTER 2: EMILY
"You seem quiet today. Need to tell me anything? You know get something off your chest?"I said glancing at Jen.
"What?"
"You know unload some important information?"
"No, why?"She looked at me, defensive.
"well you just seem… I don't know… different." I averted my eyes and hoped she took it for the best but, I know Jen she would probably over react and cause a seen.
"Yeah something about today just doesn't feel right."said Jen quietly. That caught me by surprise, She's always so confident and quick witted. She wasn't acting strange but I could see it on her. Her eyes were the tell tale they usually they look like pools of shattered jade but, today they seemed dull and sad.
I turned into the parking lot of our school and spotted a space in the far corner next to a gray light post. I weaved my way through the cars even more careful then I usually am due to all the new drivers. When I pulled into the spot I turned to Jen and said,"I know you have to wait, do you want me to leave my keys with you so you can wait in here?"
Jen smiled and said "I didn't even think about that. Yeah, that would be nice. I wouldn't have to freeze my ass of out there."
"Ok my only stipulation is that you don't go anywhere."I thought for another moment and added,"and you have to wait for me right back here after school because I don't want to have to wait around out side if you have my car and-"
"Ok!Ok!" Jen interrupted,"Jeez! What do you think I'll do anyway?" Glancing at the clock I realized that I was going to be late. It was 5:53 and first period started at 5:55 I needed to hurry.
"whatever" I said as I got out."Oh, and lock it please!"
"Ok!Just go!"Jen laughed
CHAPTER 3: WESLEY
I looked at the time it was 5:38AM soon the older daughter should be getting into her car to go to school. That is when I'll make my move. My eyes flicked down to my radio some Bob Marly song came on I never was the reggae type, more of an alternative guy myself, so I switched it off. Out side my car I heard the heavy thump of a car door closing. It was her. I missed her. I needed to think fast I could open her car door and just drag her to the back of the van but that would be too hard someone could see… I could get here tomorrow… I'll just follow her I can pick her up when she's getting out of her car. Yes I think I even have some chloroform in the back. Wait why isn't she leaving? Did she she me? No she's just sitting in her car singing to something. What is she doing? The door to Victor's house opened and the younger daughter stepped out. What was she doing getting in to the car with her sister she had her own car? This changed everything. What am I to do now? Take both of them? No they would be too strong together. Before I could think too much on the subject their car was moving. I followed the dark jeep maneuvering one car behind them until they turned into Hayward high's parking lot. Because I had spent every waking moment of the last six months learning everything there was to know about the Summers family preparing for this day, I knew that the parking lot at Hayward was always full during the day. I also knew that the older sister had a meeting today after school that meant she would be the last student, not counting her sister, at the school. I could see it now…
CHAPTER 4: JEN
"Remember-" The bell cut Miss. Jenkins off as she yelled out our assignment all I could catch was "due tomorrow" and "web page". Oh well I'll just ask Marcus… if I can find him in this sea of people. Hayward's halls were, as always, full to the brim with moody teenagers. Most of the faces were happy and giggling but sprinkled in to the mix were scowls and frowns, glares and sobs. One girl in the far left caught my attention. She was riffling though her locker then abruptly slammed it closed. Her eyes darted around and stopped directly on me. Quickly I turned and walked away. Two seconds latter she rushed past me knocking my shoulder with hers. The books I had been carrying were now strewn all over the floor. As I kneeled down to pick them up I saw a pair of hands joined me. It was Marcus his face gleaming, was he gorgeous! He had dark brown hair and brooding eyes, and a body that was perfectly chiseled. light freckles that you almost couldn't notice dotted his nose and cheek bones stopping just before a strong jaw line. Once I tried to count those angle kisses but he noticed and I never finished counting.
"what a klutz you are Jenna Summers. One day your going to get yourself killed!"he said nudging me.
"You really think that dropping books will get me killed?" I asked.
"Hey! It's happened in weirder ways!" He smirked "Just lookin' out for ya"
"Oh my hero!"I put my hand to my head,"what could I have done without you!"
He stood with my books and offered me his hand.
"My dear, I dare say you would have just keeled over!Dead!Just dead I tell you!" at this I took his hand and hoped up laughing at his attempt at a british ascent. What a good friend he was!
After I asked Marcus about what Miss. Jenkins said I started on my way to the parking lot. He offered to walk me but I said no, he had other things to do with his time then shepherd me around. I was also worried that Emily would be waiting for me and scold me that I was late… Wait… Emily had her meeting today! Wait… that means I'll be waiting here for ages! My happy burst popped and all I had left was disappointment and at least 2 hours of waiting ahead of me.
CHAPTER 5: EMILY
Nora and I were walking back through the school to the parking lot. She was rambling on about some guy in her lit. class. I usually listen to Nora, I mean she was my best friend! But, today I just couldn't. For some reason I just couldn't deal with the talking. I had all the symptoms of a headache but I didn't have one.
"So then she was talking ab-"
"Look I'm sorry I don't feel to good I think I'll just walk the rest of the way by myself." I said cutting Nora off.
"Oh. Ok. well, I'll just see you later then. Bye." Nora said quietly. I could see the disappointment in her eyes. I was thinking about taking back what I said but, she was already walking away.
"Bye!" I called after her.
As I was wondering why my school would have two small parking lots and not one large one, I noticed a van idling in the corner of the parking lot. This was weird because when I had a meeting I was always the last one in the east parking lot. Had someone new come to the meeting? No. As I passed the car I saw a striking young man I didn't recognize sitting in the drivers seat. He didn't look at me and got this strange feeling that I had seen him before. I looked back at the van, was it me or did it used to be farther back? I turned my head back in front of me and picked up my pace a little bit more. I still had a little bit to go before I turned the corner and would see my car. I glanced back again this time it was maybe 15 feet behind me. Was he following me? The panic surging through me was over whelming. I was breathing hard I had to get to my car. The engine purred right behind me. Rumbling closer and closer. Nothing could save me but my car. Suddenly I felt a sharp twinge of pain in the back of my head. Everything went black.
Part 2
CHAPTER 6: JEN
Where was she? She had more than enough time to go to her meeting and come back. Was it possible that she forgot that I was here waiting for her and went somewhere with her friends? The Emily I knew wouldn't let anything slip her mind.
-----20min. later-----
"Hello?" said mom. I could here her smiling over the phone.
"Hi mom. Umm Emily isn't here and I'm getting worried." I spoke quickly. There was a long pause.
"What do you mean she's not here?" Mom asked confused.
"I mean that she was supposed to be at her car an hour ago and she's not." My voice cracked.
"Where do you think she could be did you check the school grounds? Maybe her meeting ran long? Did you call her?" Mom was starting to worry now.
"Yeah I did, a lot." another long pause.
"Ok I'm coming to help, don't go anywhere. Keep calling her until I get there." mom hung up. I already had Emily on speed dial. It didn't matter how long or how much I called all I got was a 'hey this is Emily leave a message!'. What I wouldn't do to see her right now.
-----5mins. latter-----
"Hey Jen whats up?" Nora's voice was light and peppy.
"Oh you guys are out of your meeting?" I said, hopeful.
"Yeah we got out like 2 hours ago. Why?" At these simple words my hart sank. No way Emily's meeting ran long. Only two options were left, One: Emily was with Nora and she didn't tell me or two: She had been some how taken from school. Unwillingly?
"Umm is she with you?"
"No… why would she be with me? The last time I saw her was when we were walking to our cars." Nora could now she where this was going, "she isn't with you?"
"No" I said firmly "and I'm in her car."
The words sent a chill down my spine even as I said them.
"I'm coming right now don't go anywhere." I had heard those same words from my mother, 'don't go anywhere'. Like I could. I wouldn't get out of this car if it caught fire, not when I was alone anyway. I should've felt relief when I saw my mom's car but it's not like she could help. Not even Nora, Emily's BEST friend, could. She was gone.
CHAPTER 7: JEN
I woke in a dark room. Most of it I couldn't make out but, I could see the silhouette of a desk in the corner and lots of boxes on the walls. I felt as though my whole body was bruised and for all I knew it could be. I licked my lips They were cracked and had the destined tastes of iron. Blood. I tried to move my hands to pull back my hair but found that I was tied to something. It might have been a pole or maybe a beam? My head was spinning, he must have drugged me. I couldn't fall asleep. "No." I mumbled. Everything was spinning swirling into blackness. A tall figure stepped out of the shadows, something was shining in it's hand.
CHAPTER 8: WESLEY
She slumped over twisting her hands back and forth trying to break free. It wouldn't work. Even if some miracle let her wriggle out of her binds she was too high to be able to fight back. Last night hadn't gone how I'd planed. I drove up behind her and hit her in the back of the head with my bat. What was supposed to happen after was I would pick her up, put her in my car, and drive her here, instead she woke up in the back of the car and tried to jump out. I had to swerve around so she couldn't open the door. She keep falling but she would just get right back up and try again until she was thrown backwards on to the back of a box hitting her head. I had to pull over and cram vicodin down her throat. I hoped she would over dose but I also was wishing she didn't die. That was the plan eventually but I had to work myself up to it. I had to find a reason for her to die, something she did wrong to justify what I was going to do.
CHAPTER 9: JEN
I was sitting in Emily's room starring out her window. School had been canceled for the past three days due to all the flooding, it seemed to me that mother nature new what had happened three days, four hours, and thirty-four minutes ago, and was giving me a break. I had been living in Emily's room since she went missing, listening to the rain trying to make sense of it all. Sleeping had been a problem, my body needed it but every time I closed my eyes I saw Emily being abducted, or tortured.
I focused my eyes on a man outside. He was dressed in dark jeans,a button up shirt, and a big black coat. His hands were stuffed in his pockets and his head was turned down. He walked up towards our house, stopped at the mail box, slid something into it, then quickly turned and walked back to his car. I am only but a curious being so I left Emily's room and ran quickly to the mail box grabbed all of it's contains and ran back inside. The only letter that wasn't damp was a red undressed envelope. I took it up to Emily's room before opening it. Sitting back on the window ledge I looked at the glossy pice of paper. It read:
You better hope
I'm not like you, or your
little girl is dead.

- Your old friend
CHAPTER 10: EMILY
My eyes opened to the same dark crowded room as they did before, but how long had I been locked in this room? I was starving, no food or drinks for however long I've been stuck in this hell hole was not good for my body. Suddenly I realized how bad I needed to go to the bath room. Thank God I didn't pee myself or I would have to sit around in old pee filled pants until… until what? I die? He kills me? I couldn't think about it, I had other pressing issues.
"HELLO? HEY ARE YOU OUT THERE?…………… LOOK I REALLY HAVE TO PEE…………… PLEASE?" I screamed, well tried to scream I still had a splitting headache. "I KNOW YOUR OUT THERE………… JUST LET ME GO TO THE BATHROOM!" I was just about to yell more when I heard the knob turn.
When he opened the door his appearance hit me once again. He was tall and had broad shoulders. His lips were plump but were tuned down at the corners and his eyes were blue, not your normal blue a dark, deep blue with gold spatters all scattered out then coming together to outline his pulps. He untied my feet then untied my hands. Pulling me up he tied my hands again and lead me to the small bathroom with out saying a word. He didn't seem like a murder to me but just like anything you can't judge a book by it's cover. As I thought of this saying it struck me that he should take the same advice. He didn't know who he was messing with, he didn't know I had a plan, and surely didn't know that he fell right were I wanted him.
I carefully watched as he unlocked the door to the small room I had been prisoner in. The key was old and rusted and matched the heavy metal door. He walked me in and sat me back were I was before. He retied my hands around the post but, this time I pushed my hands out slitty. I still couldn't get out of the rope but I had more room to wiggle them around and untie. When I was in 8th grade some of my camp friends thought it would be funny to tie me up, in my underwear, in front of the boys cabin. I had got out by the skin on my neck but I escaped never the less.
When he had come in the last time I had noticed a box of keys he kept in his desk, or at lest I thought I saw it. I had been under the influence of whatever drug he gave me so I would shut up. I had to take the chance, I didn't want sit around and wait for him to come and rape me, or kill me ,or ransom me, or what ever. I twisted my hands back an forth making the rope's knot to turn to lay in the palm of my hands. Once I got my hands untied I kept them behind me and looked around making sure he couldn't see me then quickly released my legs. Looking around again I got on to my hands and knees and crawled as fast as I could to the desk in the corner.
I franticly riffled through his things pushing papers over opening and closing drawers searching for a box that might not even be real when something caught my eye, a police report with a girl's picture stapled to the front. Curiosity got the better of me and I opened the file. It was about the murder of what I assumed was the little girl on the front. Her name was Lily Hide and she was 10 when she was abducted from her home and eventually killed. It was the work of the serial killer "Night" Who takes his victims out of their beds keeps them for a week kills them then put them back into their beds like nothing had ever happened. To me the worst part of that file was the picture of her and her family: mother, father, brother. I looked closer at the brother. I'd seen those eyes; dark blue with gold spatters. It was him this was his sister. Was he the infamous Night? Did he kill his own sister in cold blood? Wait he was maybe 15 when his sister was killed and night had started his killing spree at least 4 years before that. He couldn't have been killing when he was 11 that wouldn't make any sense. I looked on. Scribbled sticky notes covered almost every inch of the report except one paper. It was some kind of witness report by her brother, Wesley Hide. He said he saw…………… Victor Summers? Take his sister? My dad? The evidence was never brought up in court but, why? The next section of the report was pictures of the case. More pictures of Lily and Wesley, and gruesome pictures of her blood stained bed. I looked on now scared of what I might find. And I was right to be scared for what I found proved that my father, Victor Matthew Summers, is Night. A picture of him dragging poor Lily out of the Hide home was pretty damning evidence.
CHAPTER 11: JEN
I knew I should call the police but, somehow I felt that this was something they shouldn't have. This wasn't something anyone should have, not even the man who it was addressed to should see this. I didn't know why I felt like that, I just did. I looked at it, reading it over and over then over again. I couldn't understand what it meant.
you better hope
I'm not like you-
What did that mean? That my dad was like this man? No he would have to be worse for us to hope he isn't like dad.
-or your
little girl is dead-
kind of speaks for itself but, if put in with first part of the letter it would've meant my dad has killed before…? The last part was the kicker.
4
-your old friend
That is what I couldn't comprehend. None of it made since! Was it for and old friend or, was their just a random 4 and it was from an old friend. If it was from that would mean that dad had known this horrible man. But that wouldn't make since because dad would never associate himself with anyone so terrible. Truthfully, I don't think a well thought out possible murderer would use 4 in place of for. So what could it be?
CHAPTER 12: EMILY
I couldn't believe the man that I have loved and respected for so long could have done that. I couldn't wrap my mind around how crazy he is and how well he can hide it. I feel so……… confused. I started to feel woozy and sick, so I slumped down resting my head on the front of the desk. No matter what my dad was I couldn't be punished for it. That was obviously the plan to get revenge on my father by taking and killing me just like what he had done to Lily.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
In the end Emily and Wesley fall in love and move to Chicago to get married but, after a couple of years their hiding place was threatened so they move to Venice to live undercover.
Jen keeps finding letters left by Wesley to her father and soon discovers what he used to be, a cold blooded cereal killer named "Night". She was so enraged and confused that she drugged her father, wrote a suicide note that confessed her fathers horrible deeds, then lit her house on fire with him passed out inside. Jen tells her mother, Jean, this and she and her mother kept it quiet for the rest of their lives.
2 or 3 months after the death of her father Emily sends a letter to Jen and Jean. They send letters back and forth all the time now and see each other on vacations often.
The glowing numbers on my night stand were stinging my eyes, but I could't help but stair, they were the only things I could see in my pitch black room.
